Fin Structure

Description: The seaboard goby (Gobiosoma ginsburgi Hildebrand & Schroeder, 1928) has a long pelvic disk that spans most of the distance from its pelvic fin to its ventral fin. It most commonly has 12 dorsal rays.

Coloration

Its body color ranges from a pale, translucent shade to a darker brown.

Geographic Range

Distribution and habitat: This species is found along the Atlantic Coast of the United States, ranging from Massachusetts in the north to Georgia in the south. It is recorded most frequently between New Jersey and the southern end of its distribution range.

Depth Range

While it has been found at depths as great as 45 meters, it occurs most commonly at depths between 2 and 9 meters.

Spawning Period

Reproduction and development: Spawning happens during the summer. In the southern portions of the species' range, spawning begins when individuals reach 1 year of age, and spawning activity progresses northward as the summer season continues.

Unobserved Reproductive Traits

Egg characteristics and hatching size of the seaboard goby have not been observed.
