Couch's goby, scientifically named Gobius couchi, is a species of goby.

Distribution Range

It is native to the northeastern Atlantic Ocean, ranging as far north as southern Great Britain and Ireland, as well as the Mediterranean Sea and the Adriatic Sea.

Habitat

In these regions, it lives under stones on muddy sand in inshore waters and the intertidal zone.

Size

This species can grow to a total length of 7.7 centimetres, which equals 3.0 inches.

Etymology

Both its specific scientific name and common name honor Jonathan Couch, a Cornish ichthyologist who lived from 1789 to 1870 and authored A History of the Fishes of the British Islands, published between 1862 and 1867.
