Taxonomic Naming

This species, Trimeresurus insularis Kramer, 1977, has the following scalation characteristics: 21 rows of dorsal scales at midbody, 156–164 ventral scales in males and 156–167 ventral scales in females, 70–75 subcaudal scales in males and 54–59 subcaudal scales in females, and 7–12 supralabial scales.

Color Pattern

Its color pattern is most commonly green or blue-green, and some specific populations also have yellow variants.

Distribution Range

This species is native to Indonesia, where it occurs on eastern Java, Adonara, Alor, Bali, Flores, Komodo, Lombok, Padar, Rinca, Romang, Rote, Sumba, Sumbawa, Timor, and Wetar, and it is also found in Timor-Leste.

Type Locality

Its type locality is recorded as "Soe, Timor".

Habitat and Elevation

It is an arboreal species that inhabits dry monsoon forests, and can be found at elevations up to 1,200 m (3,900 ft) above sea level.
