It has a wide native distribution across southern Europe, particularly Sardinia, North Africa including Macaronesia, and western Asia.

Regional Distribution in Europe

Within the British Isles, the species is currently limited to just two sites, and in Scandinavia, it only grows at a small number of sites on the island of Gotland.
