Size
The tataupa tinamou (Crypturellus tataupa) is approximately 25 cm (9.8 in) long.
Upper Body Coloration
Its upper body parts are dark brown, with a dark brown crown and a pale grey throat.
Lower Body Coloration
The sides of its head, neck, and breast are a darker grey, and it has a buff belly.
Soft Part Coloration
Its bill and legs are purplish red.
Preferred Habitat & Altitude
The tataupa tinamou prefers dry forest habitats up to 1,400 m (4,600 ft) in altitude.
Alternative Habitats
It can also be found in lowland moist forest and degraded former forest habitats.
Core Distribution Range
This species is native to South America, where it occurs in northeastern Brazil, eastern Bolivia, northern Argentina, Paraguay and western Peru.
Extra Range Sighting
It has also been sighted in extreme southern Ecuador.
