Scientific Naming and Size
The Andean tinamou, scientifically named Nothoprocta pentlandii (G.R.Gray, 1867), is approximately 27 cm (11 in) long.
Upper Body Plumage
Its upper parts range from greyish-brown to olive brown, with black and white barring.
Underbody and Head Plumage
It has a grey breast marked with white or buff spots, a buff or whitish belly, a black crown, mottled grey sides of the head and throat, and yellow legs.
Geographical Distribution
This species is found in the Andes mountains, from southern Ecuador down to central Chile. It also occurs in the Sierras de Córdoba in Argentina.
Habitat and Altitude Range
It inhabits subtropical and tropical shrubland, at altitudes between 800 m and 4,100 m (2,600–13,500 ft).
