About Veronica elliptica G.Forst.

Veronica elliptica G.Forst., also known by the synonym Hebe elliptica, is a species of flowering plant in the family Plantaginaceae. Its native range includes New Zealand (covering the Antipodean Islands and the Chatham Islands), Patagonia, and the Falkland Islands. This plant is an evergreen bushy shrub that reaches 1 meter or more in height. It bears green oval leaves that measure 2 to 4 centimeters long, and produces flowers that range in color from white to pale mauve. Branches collected from Veronica elliptica plants growing on Disappointment Island, part of the Auckland Islands group of New Zealand, were used by survivors of the Dundonald shipwreck to build a coracle and oars. The survivors used this vessel to successfully reach Auckland Island.
