Species Nomenclature

Stipecampus cristatus, commonly known as the ring-backed pipefish, is a species of pipefish. This species is the only known member of the genus Stipecampus.

Geographic Range

It is found in Indian Ocean waters off the southern coast of Australia.

Habitat and Depth

It lives on reefs within beds of red and brown algae, and can be found at depths down to 15 metres (49 feet).

Maximum Length

The species reaches a maximum standard length of 22 centimetres (8.7 inches).
