Common Name and Classification

Scarus quoyi, commonly called Quoy's parrotfish or greenblotch parrotfish, is a species of marine ray-finned parrotfish that belongs to the family Scaridae.

Native Range and Habitat

This species is native to the western Pacific Ocean, where it inhabits coral reefs.

Maximum Length

It can reach a maximum total length of 40 cm.

Formal Description History

This species was first formally described in 1840 by French naturalist Achille Valenciennes, who lived from 1794 to 1865.

Type Locality

The type locality for the species was recorded as Carteret Harbour, Lambom Island, near Cape St. George in southern New Ireland, which is part of the Bismarck Archipelago.

Australian Distribution

Within Australian waters, Scarus quoyi occurs on the northern Great Barrier Reef.
