Nomenclature
The dark-capped parrotfish, which has the scientific name Scarus oviceps Valenciennes, 1840, is also known by other common names including blue parrotfish, egghead parrotfish and yellow-barred parrotfish. It is a species of marine ray-finned fish that belongs to the parrotfish family Scaridae.
Habitat
This species lives on coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific region.
Distribution Range
Its range extends eastward to Mauritius, westward to the Tuamotus and the Line Islands, northward to the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, and southward to Shark Bay in Western Australia and the Great Barrier Reef.
