Rhinella arenarum is a toad species that belongs to the Bufonidae family.
Geographic Distribution
Its distribution covers southern Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia east of the Andes, and Argentina from Chubut Province northwards.
Habitat
This species lives in small ponds and bogs with stagnant water, located in dry temperate habitats that are mostly open areas.
Local Population Status
It is locally common.
Threats and Conservation Status
Although individuals are collected for educational and scientific purposes, and the species also experiences mortality from road collisions, it is not overall considered threatened.
Fossil Record
Confirmed fossils of Rhinella arenarum from the late Pliocene to the Holocene have been found in central Argentina.
