This species was originally described as Hylarana glandulosa, and its currently accepted scientific name is Pulchrana glandulosa (Boulenger, 1882). It is a species of true frog, commonly known by the common names rough-sided frog and glandular frog.
Geographic Range
It is native to Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Natural Habitats
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical swampland, rivers, freshwater marshes, caves, and plantations.
Conservation Status
The International Union for Conservation of Nature does not consider this species threatened.
Local Common Name
In Thailand, this frog is called h̄mā n̂ảm (Thai script: หมาน้ำ), which literally translates to water dog. This name comes from the fact that the frog’s call sounds like a barking puppy.
