The Seychelles fruit bat, also called the Seychelles flying fox, has the scientific name Pteropus seychellensis.
Distribution
It is a species of megabat that lives on the granitic islands of Seychelles, as well as on the Comoros and Mafia Island.
Ecological Role
This bat is an important part of the island ecosystems it inhabits, as it disperses the seeds of many different tree species.
Population Status
While it is hunted for meat on some of the islands it occupies, the species is still abundant overall.
Local Abundance
It is especially common on Silhouette Island.
