Common Name and Endemic Range
Podarcis cretensis, commonly called the Cretan wall lizard, is a species of lacertid lizard that is endemic to Crete, including its surrounding satellite islands.
Previous Taxonomic Classification
Before 2008, this lizard was classified as a subspecies of Podarcis erhardii.
Current Taxonomic Status and Related Species
Genetic analysis later confirmed that it is a distinct separate species, and is closely related to Podarcis peloponnesiacus.
