Endemism
This species is endemic to South America.
Geographic Range
Its geographic range extends across southwestern Venezuela, southeastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, and eastern Peru, then south and east through southwestern Brazil and northern Bolivia to Paraguay and northeastern Argentina, before extending north through eastern Brazil. It is also found in eastern Venezuela and adjacent Guyana.
Natural Habitat
The preferred natural habitat of Phrynops geoffroanus is freshwater rivers.
