About Penstemon tenuis Small

Penstemon tenuis Small is a perennial herb that produces erect, slender stems reaching over 3 feet (0.91 meters) in height. Its lanceolate leaves grow in opposite arrangements, measuring up to 4.75 inches (121 millimeters) long and 1 inch (25 millimeters) wide. The leaves have pointed tips and margins that are either toothed or smooth (entire). Lower leaves are sessile (lacking a stalk attaching them to the stem), while upper leaves are connate (fused together at their base around the stem). Bell-shaped flowers grow in terminal racemes, clustered at the top of the main stem. Flowers are pink or pale purple with white throats, and measure 0.5 inches (13 millimeters) wide, with a length that is slightly longer than their width. Flowers are bilabiate (two-lipped): the upper lip bears two erect lobes, and the lower lip bears three rounded lobes.
