Penstemon purpusii Brandegee, commonly called Snow Mountain beardtongue, is an uncommon penstemon species. It is endemic to northern California, found only in the Klamath Mountains and the northern peaks of the North Coast Ranges. It grows in rocky open and forested mountain habitats. This perennial herb grows from a woody base and reaches a maximum height of 20 centimeters. Its leaves are 1 to 3 centimeters long, widely lance-shaped, and sometimes folded along their length. Its glandular inflorescence holds tubular flowers that grow up to 3 centimeters long. The flowers are generally purple-blue, and often have white throats.
