Carapace Markings
This species has light-colored rings across its carapace, and these rings are thicker than the rings found on the related species Graptemys nigrinoda.
Geographic Distribution
Geographically, Graptemys oculifera occurs most commonly in the Pearl River system, which spans the U.S. states of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Sympatric Species
It shares this entire geographic range with another map turtle species, the Pearl River map turtle (Graptemys pearlensis).
