Size
Goniurosaurus hainanensis can grow to over 23 centimetres (9 inches) in length, with an average length around 22 centimetres (8.5 inches).
Habitat
They most often dwell on the sides of rock formations and forest floors.
Eye and Eyelid Features
They typically have large red eyes, ranging in shade from maroon to crimson, and have movable eyelids, similar to the more widely known leopard gecko, which is also a member of the family Eublepharidae.
Dorsal Coloration
Their base body color is usually gray, with black spots and yellow or orange bands across the dorsal area.
Age-Related Patterning Change
Some individuals lose their distinct patterning with age, becoming nearly solid gray overall.
Ventral Coloration
The ventral area is nearly white and translucent.
Limb Claw Features
They have five clawed fingers that let them easily climb rocky terrain and rainforest cliffs.
Toepad Trait
Like other Goniurosaurus geckos, this species lacks adhesive toepads.
