The cat gecko, with the scientific name Aeluroscalabotes felinus (Günther, 1864), is a lightly built gecko.
Coloration Pattern
It is typically red-brown in color, with white spots across its body and solid white coloring under its chin; this solid white coloring sometimes extends to the belly. Some individual cat geckos have brown blotches along the back.
Taxonomic Status and Fossil Similarity
This species is considered one of the more primitive types of gecko, and its body structure is quite physically similar to the few known early gecko fossils that have been discovered.
Size and Sexual Dimorphism
Cat geckos can grow to around 18 cm (7 inches) in total length, and males are smaller than females.
