Primary Habitat

This snake occurs in open grassy, generally rocky habitats located north of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt.

Additional Habitats

It can also be found in pine-oak forest, open karstic areas, grassy mountain meadows, and stony mesquite-grassland.
