Adult Size

Adults of Bothriechis bicolor are usually 60–70 centimeters (24–28 in) long, and may reach up to 100 centimeters (39 in). They have a relatively slender body.

Base Body Coloration

Their base color is green or bluish green, and individuals most often have no distinct pattern. Occasional specimens from Mexico may have black flecks, dots, and/or blue blotches.

Head Coloration

The top of the head is solid green, with no postocular stripe.

Scale and Skin Markings

The skin between the scales is often blue, and some scale borders may also be blue.

Ventral Coloration

The belly is a lighter shade, most commonly uniform yellowish-green.

Main Distribution Range

This species is found along the Pacific slope from southeastern Chiapas, Mexico, eastward to south-central Guatemala. It is also recorded from a small number of locations in Honduras, specifically in the southern portion of the Sierra del Merendón and at Cerro Santa Bárbara.

Original Type Locality

The originally given type locality is "Des forêts de Saint-Augustine, département de Solola (Guatémala), sur le versant occidental de la Cordillèra. 610 mètres d'altitude", which translates to forests of San Augustín, on the western slope of the Cordillera, Department of Sololá, Guatemala, at 610 m elevation.

Actual Type Locality Location

In actuality, San Augustín lies on the southern slope of Volcán Atitlán.

Habitat and Elevation Range

Bothriechis bicolor prefers rain forests and cloud forests, occurring at elevations between 500 meters (1,600 ft) and 2,000 meters (6,600 ft).
