Native Habitat
It is native to the Indian Ocean, where it inhabits coral reefs.
Geographic Range
Its geographic range stretches from the Gulf of Aden and Socotra, down the coast of East Africa to as far south as Mozambique, and east across the Indian Ocean to western Indonesia.
Species Complex
This species forms a species complex with Chlorurus gibbus, which is found in the Red Sea, and Chlorurus microrhinos, which is found in the west-central Pacific.
