Nomenclature and Taxonomy

Brookesia therezieni, commonly called the Perinet leaf chameleon, is a species of lizard belonging to the Chamaeleonidae family. It was first described as a new species by Édouard-Raoul Brygoo and Charles Antoine Domergue in 1970, and its scientific name is Brookesia therezieni Brygoo & Domergue, 1970.

Endemic Range Base

This species is endemic to eastern Madagascar. Its common name comes from its type locality, Périnet, Madagascar.

Known Distribution Locations

It is also found across east-central Madagascar in locations including An'Ala, Ankeniheny, Andasibe, Anjanaharibe, Mantadia, and Imerimandroso.

Elevation and Occurrence Area

It occurs at elevations between 900 and 1,500 meters (3,000 and 4,900 feet) above mean sea level, and its estimated extent of occurrence is 30,444 square kilometers (11,754 square miles).

Preferred Habitat

Its preferred natural habitat is forest.

Reproduction and Conservation Status

Brookesia therezieni is an oviparous species, and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has assessed its conservation status as Least Concern.
