The Sulawesi bear cuscus, also called the Sulawesi bear phalanger, has the scientific name Ailurops ursinus. It is an arboreal marsupial species that belongs to the family Phalangeridae.
Distribution
This species is endemic to Sulawesi and nearby islands in Indonesia.
Habitat
It inhabits tropical moist lowland forest up to an elevation of 600 m (2,000 ft).
Behavior and Diet
Ailurops ursinus is diurnal, eats primarily leaves, and is often found living in pairs.
Threats
It is currently threatened by hunting, collection for the pet trade, and deforestation.
Observed Vocalization Behavior
One individual of this species was observed holding a raised posture while producing short, harsh chattering and clicking sounds.
