Nomenclature and Classification

The fulvous babbler, also called the fulvous chatterer, is a bird species currently classified in the family Leiothrichidae under the scientific name Argya fulva. This species was previously assigned to the genus Turdoides, carrying the scientific name Turdoides fulva (Desfontaines, 1789), but was moved to the resurrected genus Argya after a comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study was published in 2018.

Size Measurements

It measures 25 cm in length with a wingspan ranging from 27 to 30.5 cm.

Plumage Coloration

Its upperparts are warm brown with very faint streaking on the crown and back. Its throat is whitish, and all other underparts are pale brown.

Geographic Distribution

It is distributed across northern Africa, extending south to the Sahel region, and has been recorded in Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, and Tunisia.

Natural Habitat

Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
