Common Name
This subspecies Trichoglossus haematodus moluccanus is commonly called the coconut lorikeet.
Size and Weight
It measures 25–30 cm (10–12 in) in length and weighs around 109–137 g (3.8–4.8 oz).
Head and Bill Features
It has an orange-red bill, with a dark blue head that fades to brown at the neck.
Collar and Upperpart Coloration
It has a yellow collar and green upperparts.
Torso Plumage
The breast is red with blue-black barring, and the belly is green with yellow barring.
Tail Coloration
The upper side of the tail is green, while the underside of the tail is barred green and yellow.

Parent Species Distribution
The parent species Trichoglossus haematodus is distributed across eastern Indonesia (on Buru, Seram, Misool, Waigeo, Numfoor, Yapen and the Aru Islands), New Guinea (shared by Indonesia and Papua New Guinea), the Bismarck Archipelago, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
Natural Habitat Types
The species lives in a wide range of lowland and wooded hill habitats, including mangroves, rainforest, nypa forest, swamps, savanna and woodland.
Human-Modified Habitats
It also lives in human-modified areas such as coconut plantations, gardens, agricultural land and disturbed forest.
Altitudinal Range
It occurs from sea level up to 2,440 m (8,010 ft), and the maximum upper altitude varies by location.
