Trachemys venusta cataspila is found in the Mexican states of San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, and Veracruz.

Trachemys venusta grayi lives in El Salvador, Guatemala, and the Mexican states of Chiapas and Oaxaca.
2010 Described Subspecies Ranges
Three additional subspecies were first described in 2010: Trachemys venusta iversoni, which occurs in the Mexican state of Yucatán; Trachemys venusta panamensis, which is found in Panama; and Trachemys venusta uhrigi, which ranges across Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Colombian departments of Antioquia and Chocó.
