Across most of the area where this species occurs, it is the only chipmunk species present.
Distinguishing Morphological Traits
It can be distinguished from other chipmunks by two key traits: its tail is grayish on the upper side and reddish on the underside, and it has an overall brown body color with faint tawny stripes.
