The flower corolla can be orange-reddish, orange-purple, or greenish-yellow with orange spots, and its upper lip is reddish purple.
Anther Features
The anthers are yellow, sometimes with bluish margins.
Staminode Color
The staminode is purple, sometimes greenish-purple.
Native Distribution
This species is native to the southwest Iberian Peninsula (including central and southern Portugal, mainly the Médio Tejo, Lezíria do Tejo, Baixo Alentejo and Algarve regions, plus southwest Spain and Gibraltar) and Northwest Africa (including Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia).
Habitat Preferences
It grows in moist sites, usually near the banks of watercourses, and prefers deep soils formed from mud or limestone.
