About Scrophularia canina L.

Scrophularia canina L. is a usually herbaceous perennial species with a self-supporting growth form. It has simple, broad leaves and square stems. Its small two-lipped flowers are produced in loose terminal clusters. Mature individuals can reach a height of 0.36 m, which equals 1 foot 2 inches. Scrophularia canina is distributed across most of southern and central Europe, and also occurs in north Africa. Wind gusts and plant structure both influence the seed dispersal of this species. It has been tested in phytoremediation experiments, where it was found to accumulate lead more efficiently than Pistacia lentiscus.
