About Pterogyne nitens Tul.
Pterogyne is a monotypic genus in the legume family Fabaceae, belonging to the subfamily Caesalpinioideae. The only species in this genus is Pterogyne nitens Tul. This species has multiple common names across different regions: in Spanish, it is called guiraró, palo coca, or tipa colorado, while in Portuguese it is commonly known as amendoim bravo, cocal, or madeira nova. Pterogyne nitens occurs naturally in Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina. It is currently threatened by both habitat loss and harvesting activities to obtain its timber. Five distinct guanidine alkaloid natural products have been isolated from the leaves of Pterogyne nitens: nitensidine D, nitensidine E, pterogynine, pterogynidine, and galegine.
