About Pseudorontium cyathiferum (Benth.) Rothm.

Pseudorontium is a genus of flowering plants that contains only one species: Pseudorontium cyathiferum, which has the synonym Antirrhinum cyathiferum. This New World snapdragon is commonly known as dog's-mouth and Deep Canyon snapdragon. It is native to the deserts of northern Mexico, as well as the adjacent regions of California and Arizona in the United States. This species is an annual herb that grows a hairy, erect, non-climbing stem, and bears many oval-shaped leaves. Its flowers grow singly, are deep purple with dark veins and white, often have some yellow coloring in the flower throat, and reach about one centimeter in length. This plant was previously classified among New World Antirrhinum species, and it is now recognized as the only member of the separate related genus Pseudorontium.
