About Pristimantis ridens (Cope, 1866)
Size
Pristimantis ridens are small frogs. Males reach 19 mm (0.75 in) and females reach 25 mm (0.98 in) in snout–vent length.
Dorsal Skin Texture and Base Color
Their dorsal skin is smooth, and ranges in color from pale brown to yellow with pink undertones. A slightly darker W-shaped patch is often present just behind the head.
Dorsal Markings
Individual frogs may have one or two parallel dorsolateral stripes. Their thighs have distinct barring.
Ventral Coloration
The ventral side is yellow with scattered dark specks. This species is very similar in appearance to Pristimantis cruentus.
Natural Habitat
The natural habitats of Pristimantis ridens are humid lowland and montane forests, up to approximately 1,600 m (5,200 ft) above sea level.
Disturbed Habitat Tolerance
It can also survive in disturbed habitats, including degraded secondary vegetation, plantations, rural gardens, and urban areas.
