About Porthidium nasutum (Bocourt, 1868)
Adult Body Length
Adults of this species are usually less than 40 centimeters (16 inches) in total length, and rarely grow to more than 60 centimeters (24 inches). Females are considerably larger than males.
Body Morphology
This species is moderately stout-bodied and terrestrial.
Overall Geographic Range
Its geographic range extends from southern Mexico southward through Central America to western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador in South America.
Atlantic Lowlands Distribution
It inhabits the Atlantic lowlands from the Mexican states of Tabasco and Chiapas, through Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, to eastern Panama and northwestern Colombia.
Pacific Lowlands Distribution
In the Pacific lowlands, it occurs in southwestern Costa Rica, central and eastern Panama, and continues onward to northwestern Ecuador.
Habitat and Elevation Range
It is found in mesic lowland broadleaf forest or rainforest at elevations ranging from sea level to around 900 meters (3,000 feet).
Type Locality
The given type locality is "Pansos [Panzós], sur les bords du Polochic [Alta Verapaz] (Guatémala)."
