About Polyscias oahuensis (A.Gray) Lowry & G.M.Plunkett
Polyscias oahuensis is a tree species in the ivy family, with the common name ʻohe mauka. It is endemic to Hawaii, and grows on all of the state’s major islands except Niihau and Kahoolawe. This tree bears compound leaves, each composed of 7 to 15 dull leaflets. It produces clear sap. Its fruits are black or purple, and birds disperse its seeds. When the genus Tetraplasandra was formerly recognized, this species was the most variable within that genus. It grows in moist to wet forests on the Hawaiian islands.
