About Platysaurus intermedius Matschie, 1891
Female and Juvenile Coloration
All subspecies of Platysaurus intermedius (common flat lizard) have females and juveniles with black scales and white stripes along their backs. Their bellies are brown, with white outer edges.
Adult Male Coloration
Each subspecies has distinct coloration in adult males.

Common flat lizards are the most widespread and abundant species in the genus Platysaurus.
Shelter Preference
They live under exfoliating (weathering) rocks, and prefer granite, sandstone, and quartzite as their rock types.
Habitat Types
Their habitats include moderately moist savannahs and rock outcrops.
Geographic Distribution
Their distribution covers all of Zimbabwe, North Province, Mpumalanga, southern Malawi, eastern Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique, and northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Range Inclusions
This range includes the Kalahari Desert and several large river drainage systems.
