About Plantago virginica L.

Plantago virginica L. is an annual flowering plant that bears both male and female flowers arranged in a spike. The entire plant, including both its leaves and stem, is often covered in many tiny hairs. Its leaves range from 2 to 15 centimeters long and 0.5 to 4 centimeters wide. This species has a low-lying growth habit, growing close to the ground. Its seeds are typically brown in color and around 2 millimeters wide. Plantago virginica usually grows at elevations of less than 1000 meters above sea level. This plant is native to the southern and eastern states of the United States. It prefers coarser, larger-grained soil types, which limits the areas where it can become established. It can be found throughout most of the continental United States, and also extends into Canada.
