About Philenoptera violacea (Klotzsch) Schrire
Philopenra violacea, commonly known as the rain tree, is a medium-sized tree. It has a sparse crown, and its trunk and main branches are typically crooked. Its leaves are compound, bearing 1 to 2 pairs of lateral leaflets plus one single terminal leaflet. Mature leaves are usually rough in texture and blue-green in color. The tree's bark is pale and flakes off in large, irregular patches. This species is native to South Tropical and South Africa. It is common in riverine areas, floodplain grasslands, and plateau miombo woodlands. It grows on alluvium and Kalahari sands, often on termite mounds, and can be found at elevations up to 1,400 m (4,600 ft). Its confirmed distribution includes SE Angola, DRC (Katanga), Tanzania, Zambia, NE Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana's Okavango Delta, South Africa (Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces), and Eswatini.
