About Persoonia acerosa Sieber ex Schult. & Schult.fil.
Persoonia acerosa (common name needle geebung) is an erect to spreading shrub that typically reaches 0.5 to 2 metres (1 foot 8 inches to 6 feet 7 inches) in height, and has smooth bark. Its leaves are linear, between 10 and 23 millimetres (0.39 to 0.91 inches) long and 0.5 millimetres (0.020 inches) wide, with a channeled upper surface. Flowers are arranged between the leaves on a branchlet that continues growing after flowering, and each individual flower sits on a pedicel 1 to 2 millimetres (0.039 to 0.079 inches) long. The flowers are tube-shaped, 8 to 10 millimetres (0.31 to 0.39 inches) long, hairless, and mostly bloom in summer. The fruit is a pear-shaped, yellowish-green drupe that grows up to 14 millimetres (0.55 inches) long. This species grows in heath, scrubby woodland, and forest on sandstone. It occurs on the Central Coast of New South Wales, and from the central Blue Mountains to the Hill Top district, at altitudes between 550 and 1,000 metres (1,800 to 3,280 feet). It is mainly found in the upper Blue Mountains, and is believed to be extinct at the Hill Top location.
