About Perideridia californica (Torr.) A.Nelson & J.F.Macbr.
Perideridia californica (Torr.) A.Nelson & J.F.Macbr. is a flowering plant species in the Apiaceae family, commonly called California yampah. This species is endemic to California, occurring in the Central Coast Ranges and a portion of the Sierra Nevada foothills. It grows in moist soil, most often near streams. It is a perennial herb that can reach a maximum height of nearly 1.5 meters. Its slender, erect stem grows from cylindrical tubers that can grow up to 12 centimeters long. The leaves near the plant base have blades up to 40 centimeters long, and these blades are divided into many flat, narrow, subdivided lobes. Leaves growing higher on the stem are smaller and less divided. The plant's inflorescence is a compound umbel made up of many spherical clusters of small white flowers. These flowers produce ribbed, oblong fruits that measure less than one centimeter long.
