Occidozyga laevis (Günther, 1858)

Nomenclature

Common puddle frog, also called puddle frog or yellow-bellied puddle frog, with the scientific name Occidozyga laevis (Günther, 1858), is a species of frog in the family Dicroglossidae.

Taxonomic Confusion

This species has frequently been confused with Occidozyga sumatrana. Until 1998, Occidozyga sumatrana was treated as a junior synonym of Occidozyga laevis, and most records of Occidozyga laevis from areas outside the Philippines actually represent Occidozyga sumatrana.

Confirmed Range

The confirmed range of Occidozyga laevis includes peninsular Thailand (including Phuket), Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, the Anambas Islands (specifically Tarempah), the Riau Islands (specifically Natuna Besar), and the Philippines.

Natural Habitats

Its natural habitats are tropical moist lowland forests, rivers, intermittent rivers, swamps, intermittent freshwater marshes, coastal freshwater lagoons, arable land, pastureland, rural gardens, urban areas, water storage areas, ponds, aquaculture ponds, irrigated land, seasonally flooded agricultural land, and introduced vegetation.
