About Nepenthes pervillei Blume

Etymology and Endemic Status

Nepenthes pervillei Blume, named after French plant collector Auguste Pervillé, is the only pitcher plant native to the Seychelles. It is endemic to the Seychelles islands of Mahé and Silhouette.

Habitat

This plant grows in rocky areas close to granitic mountain summits, with roots that extend deep into rock fissures.

Altitudinal Range

Its altitudinal distribution ranges from 350 to 750 metres above sea level.

Reproductive Biology

Like all species in the genus Nepenthes, N. pervillei is dioecious, meaning individual plants are either male or female.

Associated Fauna

The mite species Creutzeria seychellensis has been recorded living in the pitchers of N. pervillei.
