About Monstera spruceana (Schott) Engl.

Monstera spruceana (Schott) Engl. is a plant species belonging to the genus Monstera. It is native to Central and South America, with a range extending from Costa Rica down to Bolivia. The species is named after Richard Spruce. It is a climbing plant: juvenile plants grow in a shingling habit pressed against tree trunks, while mature plants develop pinnate leaves, and the pinnate division may only occur on one side of a leaf. The adult form of Monstera spruceana very closely resembles the species Monstera subpinnata and Monstera dilacerata. This plant is used as a traditional medicine by the Shuar and Kichwa peoples.
