Microlipophrys canevae is a species of combtooth blenny.

Previous Species Description
A previously undescribed combtooth blenny species was described from the Adriatic Sea by French ichthyologist François Charrousset from two specimens, and was named Lipophrys heuvelmansi.
Taxonomic Synonymy
In 2015, however, a comparison between these specimens and specimens of M. canevae confirmed that L. heuvelmansi is a junior synonym of M. canevae.
Etymology of Epithet
The specific epithet of this species honors Giorgio Caneva, a friend of original describer Vinciguerra.
Research Background
Caneva's work encouraged Vinciguerra to study blennies from the Gulf of Genoa, which led to the description of this species.
