About Maurandya barclayana Lindl.
Maurandya barclayana Lindl. is a herbaceous perennial climbing plant that reaches 4 m (13 ft) in height. It is a fibrous-rooted climbing perennial with stems that usually develop adventitious roots. Its leaves are ivy-like; leaf blades are triangular-cordate or triangular-hastate, measuring 1โ3.5 cm long and 8โ30 mm wide. The leaf apex ranges from acute to attenuate, while basal lobes are acute or indistinct. Leaves have small teeth along their margins toward the base, are palmately veined, and grow from a 1โ1.5 cm long petiole. This species produces white, pink, or purple tubular flowers in spring and summer. In cultivation, since Maurandya barclayana does not tolerate frost, it is most often grown under glass in conservatories in cooler temperate climates, or alternatively grown as a tender annual. It requires a sheltered position in full sun, has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, and can be propagated by seed or softwood cuttings.
