It can be found across southern Mexico, including the Balsas Depression and the surrounding states of Guerrero, Morelos, Michoacán, Puebla, México, Oaxaca, Jalisco, and Colima.

It inhabits low elevation tropical and subtropical forests, and is typically found close to permanent and temporary water bodies such as streams, rivers, and ponds.
