About Lithobates warszewitschii (Schmidt, 1857)

Lithobates warszewitschii is a medium-sized frog species. Males reach 52 mm (2.0 in) and females reach 63 mm (2.5 in) in snout–vent length.

Snout Characteristics

This species has a pointed snout.

Dorsal Coloration

Individuals have green patches of varying size on a golden brown background on their backs; their colouration darkens to brown along the sides.

Facial Markings

A dark area extends forward onto the face to form a "mask", and there is a distinct light lip line.

Skin and Limb Features

The dorsolateral folds are lighter in colour, typically golden or yellow, and the feet are extensively webbed.

Habitat Range

The natural habitats of Lithobates warszewitschii are humid lowland forests, montane forests, and gallery forests. It can be found near streams, but also occurs far from them, and is able to survive even in small forest patches.

Threats

Some populations have experienced declines from chytridiomycosis, though they have since recovered. This species is also negatively impacted by habitat loss.
