About Linaria repens (L.) Mill.

Linaria repens (L.) Mill. is a short herb that reaches a maximum height of 80 cm, and spreads via rhizomes. The upper petals of its flowers are pale with purple veins, while the lower petals are pale purple-white and usually have a yellow centre. This species looks similar to Linaria purpurea, and its flowers closely resemble Cymbalaria muralis, so care is required for correct identification. It may also be poisonous. Linaria repens grows in stony wasteground, along walls, in arable land, and on railways. It can grow at altitudes up to just over 2,300 metres. Its native range covers western Europe, and it has been introduced to the east coast of the United States. In the United Kingdom, Linaria repens is hypothesized to be an archaeophyte, meaning it was introduced before 1492. It is rarely found in eastern England or in Ireland.
