About Leucadendron sessile R.Br.
Leucadendron sessile R.Br. is a shrub that grows to 1.5 metres (4.9 feet) tall, and produces flowers between July and August. This species is killed by fire, but its seeds can survive fire events. Seeds are stored in a cone on female plants, and are released two months after ripening, after which they fall to the ground. Rodents are responsible for dispersing the seeds. This plant is unisexual, meaning individual plants are either male or female. Small insects carry out pollination. In Afrikaans, this species is called Kleinkoprosettolbos. It is distributed across the Witsenberg, from Elandskloof to the Slanghoek Mountains, and the Hottentots Holland Mountains ranging from Jonkershoek to Kogelberg. It grows primarily in granite clay soil on mountain slopes, at elevations between 10 and 600 metres (33 to 1,969 feet).
